For years, Bridget Poizner, the founder of Save Their Story™, has enjoyed taking oral histories of relatives and family friends and has always been intrigued by their life experiences. Once she was interviewing an elderly neighbor and found her story to be especially fascinating. Her neighbor remarked that most people in the neighborhood saw her as just a placid little old lady and weren’t aware of how interesting her life had been.
Bridget started thinking about how many stories are being lost because people don’t have the time to safekeep them. It occurred to her that conducting oral histories is a service that benefits many. Not only do future generations gain a knowledge of their family’s history but the person being interviewed has the opportunity to systematically reflect on his or her past and to know that his or her story will endure.
Bridget found it interesting that those interviewed often shared more details with her than they had with their families. Also, having a neutral party conduct the interview often made for a richer narrative. With the awareness that this service could benefit not only the families requesting it but would also provide meaningful rewarding employment to people conducting the interviews, “Save Their Story” was born.
She would like to dedicate her Company to her mother whose love, generosity, determination and respect for others has always served as an inspiration, and to her husband, sons, siblings, extended family and friends who are making her own life’s story such a joyous one.
